Melted Butter Sugar Cookies


1 1/2 cups sweet cream unsalted butter, melted

2 cups sugar

4 eggs, beaten

1 tablespoon extract (vanilla or almond)

1 teaspoon baking soda

Pinch of salt

5 cups flour



Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Whisk the sugar into the melted butter and set aside until the mixture is lukewarm.

Beat in the eggs and extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda.

Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and blend well (don’t overbeat).

Chill in the freezer for 30 minutes or in the refrigerator overnight.

Roll 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.

Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.

Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 8 – 10 minutes.

Cookies should be golden on edges but don’t let them brown.

Let cool and decorate.


Makes about 4 dozen medium-sized cookies.




  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract (optional)
  • food coloring as desired



  • Combine powdered sugar, milk, butter, corn syrup and vanilla in a bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened. Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional milk by the 1/8 teaspoon to reach desired spreading consistency. Tint with food color as desired.
  • Glaze cooled cookies. Let stand 6 hours or overnight until firm.
